The robot legacy continues—this time with a musical twist. The Sunrise Robot Laboratory project has released a brand-new animation clip titled BLUE GALE XABUNGLE SIDE R, offering a bold reinterpretation of the original 1982 mecha anime Blue Gale Xabungle.

The new version channels the energetic and eccentric vibe of the Xabungle universe, powered by the vocals of the five-member idol unit Houkago Climax Girls, whose latest song “Ranburu” serves as the theme. Fans of THE iDOLM@STER SHINY COLORS will recognize the group’s lineup:

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Sunrise Robot Laboratory initiative, launched by Bandai Namco Filmworks in May 2024, aims to reimagine iconic mecha properties through the lens of experimental animation. Created under the direction of Kamikaze Douga, SIDE R follows the earlier SIDE L clip released in May 2025, both helmed by a team of young animators.

The goal of the project? To celebrate the history of Sunrise mechanics while amplifying the universal appeal of Japanese robot anime through creative reinterpretation.
