The long-awaited second season of SK8 the Infinity has received its first notable update in years.

The anime’s official X account shared a new message and illustration from director Hiroko Utsumi, offering a small tease about what fans can expect from Season 2.

The key detail? Winter.

According to Utsumi, the new season will feature what she described as a “winter SK8,” though it remains unclear whether that refers to the season’s setting, release window or simply the atmosphere surrounding the story.

In her message, Utsumi explained that the team is not yet ready to show footage or other major material from the sequel, but confirmed that production is continuing steadily.

She also teased that Season 2 will somehow revolve around winter, adding that the possibilities for what that means are still wide open.

Season 2 was first announced in August 2022, making this the first meaningful update on the project in roughly four years.

The core creative team from the original anime is returning for Season 2.

The currently announced staff includes:

• Series Composition: Ichiro Okouchi

• Character Design: Michinori Chiba

• Animation Production: Bones

The recent SK8 the Infinity OVA was produced under Bones Film, an offshoot of Bones.

Utsumi’s other directing credits include BUCCHIGIRI?!, while Okouchi and Chiba also return from the original series.

Reki Kyan is a high school student obsessed with skateboarding and an underground downhill race known as “S,” where skaters compete in dangerous nighttime battles on a winding mountain course.

His world changes when he meets Langa Hasegawa, a transfer student who grew up snowboarding in Canada but has little experience on a skateboard. After Langa is pulled into the world of “S,” his snowboarding instincts quickly turn him into an unexpected skating prodigy.

Together, Reki and Langa dive deeper into the underground scene, facing increasingly skilled and eccentric rivals while their friendship is tested by competition, jealousy and the pressure that comes with chasing something they both love.
