The manga's strong AnimeJapan ranking signals fan-backed momentum because placing fourth on the "Manga We Want To See Animated" poll in 2024 shows there's a real audience eager for this adaptation. The LGBT+ rom-com premise also stands out from typical romance fare since centering the story on identity, self-expression, and friendship through a cosmetics-driven angle gives it a fresh and meaningful hook. Seven Seas Entertainment's English release shows international interest too because having the manga already available in English means there's a built-in global audience ready to follow the anime when it drops. And releasing the announcement with no staff or date is an early hype play because dropping just the news with an illustration lets the buzz build while production gets locked in.
An official X account for Azusa Banjo's I Think I Turned My Childhood Friend Into a Girl rom-com manga opened today to reveal that a TV anime adaptation is in production. Additional details, such as staff, cast and release date, were not confirmed at the time of reporting.
