Detective Conan Episode ZERO Anime Special Premieres January 3

A new visual has been released for Detective Conan: Episode ZERO, confirming that the hour-long anime special will premiere in Japan on January 3, 2026. The upcoming broadcast marks the start of the franchise’s official 30th anniversary celebration.

Initially teased in September, this new project rewinds the story back to the early days of Shinichi Kudo—before his transformation into Conan Edogawa. Based on the title and imagery, many fans believe the episode may revisit the “aquarium case” originally seen in chapters 882 to 884 of the manga and episodes 772 and 773 of the anime.

    CELEBRATING THREE DECADES OF CONAN

The Detective Conan anime, known to many viewers outside Japan as Case Closed, has been running since 1996 and now includes over 1,000 episodes and 28 theatrical films.

As part of the 30th anniversary festivities, Crunchyroll has announced curated streaming bundles of select episodes. These batches will be available both in Japanese with English subtitles and with a new English dub.

No additional production credits have been announced yet for Episode ZERO, but more details are expected as the premiere approaches.
