Date A Live Creators’ King’s Proposal Light Novel Series Officially Receives Anime Adaptation

The creative duo behind Date A Live is returning with a brand-new anime project. Koshi Tachibana and Tsunako’s fantasy romance series King’s Proposal has officially been confirmed for an anime adaptation. The news broke today through the series’ official X (formerly Twitter) account, alongside a stunning celebratory illustration by Tsunako herself.

While the announcement stopped short of revealing the staff, cast, or release window, it marks the first major step toward bringing Tachibana and Tsunako’s next world to the screen.

    THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

The post simply stated that an anime project is now in production, exciting fans who’ve followed the light novel since its debut in September 2021 under Fujimi Shobo. The King’s Proposal series currently spans eight volumes, with a manga adaptation by Nemo Kurio serialized on Square Enix’s Gangan Online platform.

A FANTASY OF POWER AND IDENTITY

Yen Press publishes the series in English and describes it as a thrilling blend of magic, identity-swapping, and high-stakes destiny.

At the center of the story is Saika Kuozaki, a breathtakingly powerful mage tasked with stopping the mysterious Annihilation Factors — forces that threaten the world every 300 hours. But when Saika is fatally injured, she transfers both her power and body to an unsuspecting high school student named Mushiki Kuga.

Suddenly living inside Saika’s body, Mushiki must master her immense magical abilities while hiding his true identity and learning to navigate an academy filled with mages far stronger — and far more dangerous — than he ever imagined.

A NEW ERA FOR TACHIBANA AND TSUNAKO

Both creators are best known for their work on Date A Live, one of the most successful multimedia light novel franchises of the 2010s. With King’s Proposal, they’re exploring a more introspective story — one that mixes romantic tension, identity crisis, and world-scale fantasy.

Fans have already praised the novel’s artwork and emotional storytelling, and now, with the anime on the horizon, expectations are high for how KADOKAWA and its partner studios will bring this world to life.
